Results

Two published articles have come from this research. You can see them here (ultralights) and here (gyroplanes). I also presented my findings at the EAAP's 50th conference in 2006.

Task

This assignment was my Master's thesis for Work and Organizational Psychology in Maastricht. The goal was to gather an emidemiology of (latent and active) accident factors for ultralight and gyroplane crashes for the past 20 years (1985-2005).

My Role

I analyzed NTSB accident reports, which are available online here, using a modified version of the HFACS framework. Of all the factors studied, the most critical is aircraft-specific pilot experience, which was a significant predictor of fatality and damage caused by ultralight and gyroplane crashes.
